I'm the same as everyone else. Animal suffering gets me. I guess because with humans you expect them to be able to avoid the suffering in the first place and animals are usually frust into it and have no choice at all. But I also love to read books with animals because I find their journey's much more engaging then a persons.

Of course if anyone really wants to get teary at a book about animals then you should read The Plague Dogs by Richard Adams.
That book is on my "to read" pile right next to my bed, but I've not yet gotten around to it. Although I heard the end is so happy it takes from the book, which is why the film (which I have seen) is even better.
I personally didn't mind the ending of the book, but I also liked the movie ending too.
Spoiler
But Poor Todd in both of them. :t-puppyeyes:
(Plague Dogs also taught me that Todd is another name for a Fox. )

I've been wanting to read Plague Dogs for quite some time. I really ought to, especially after watching the movie.

Recommend ONE book! Tell us why it’s great! Well, if you like cats, I would recommend Erin Hunter's Warriors series. It's packed with action, romance, sorrow, violence, but I'm not going to spoil the surprise. Read it for yourself! :)

1. The name is Morgaln, not Morglan

2. That would make spiderman's foe's name Moraln, not Morlan.

3. He's written Morlun, not Morlan.

Favourite books/authors/genres: Too many books and authors to list, but I'll mention that I follow Wheel of Time. As for genre, I go through stages but have been stuck on fantasy for quite a long time.
Recommend ONE book! Tell us why it’s great!
Well, I'd recommend the series mentioned above, but it's hardly one book and reading it is definitely a commitment (but you should do it anyway). Instead, I'll throw Good Omensout there, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet. There's nothing like an amusing take on the apocalypse.

Edit: I see Riverstorm beat me to it with Good Omens! So I also recommend Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. It's great, really funny, but not too offensive (to me, at least).

Recommend ONE book! Tell us why it’s great! Just one? Aww man! It's been a while since I read it, but "Burning Water" by Mercedes Lackey. It's the first of the Diana Tregarde books (there are only three). Since it's been so long since I've read it I'll borrow the summary from wikipedia.
Spoiler
Diana Tregarde, is an American witch, practicing a fantasy version of Wicca; by virtue of her position as a "Guardian" Diana has access to more magical power than many and she is required to give her help when someone asks it of her. Her magical abilities do not pay the bills, however, and so Diana makes her living by writing romance novels. In the stories, Diana must protect others from angry deities, vampires and a sorceress who intends to remain eternally young.

The last book I finished was "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Ugg! Normally I love Arthurian fantasy, but for some reason I couldn't get through it. I haven't had to slog through a book like that in a long time. It took me six weeks to finish (average for me is 2-3 days).

Recommend ONE book! Tell us why it’s great! Those who know me well obviously know I'm going to recommend, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams. Don't go judging a book by its cover movie (from what I gather, many people hated it) because the book is actually rather good. After a "terribly stupid" accident, involving the world being blown up to make way for a hyperspace bypass, the main character, Arthur Dent, is beamed up onto an alien ship with help from his best friend. The book (series) follows their adventures through the universe to discover the meaning of the answer to life, the universe, and everything.
You might have to have a certain sense of humor to find this book amusing, but there were a few parts that were so silly they had me in tears. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a good laugh. Although if you're highly religious, it might be a bit offensive as Adam's atheistic viewpoints are very clear in some areas...
