Favourite books/authors/genres:...Good heavens above that would be A Super long list... Oh wait i has a solution, Shelfari! ^^ My Shelf 5 starts=Loved it, 4=liked a lot, 3=i liked it, 2=Meh 1=decent, 0=either i didn't read or did not like it
Recommend ONE book! Tell us why it’s great! DragonSpell by Donita K. Paul, This book was amazing! I loved it from beginning to end and it was an easier read for traveling. I am bad at summaries but i do have to say it flow really nice and you really get into the characters and want to get to the next books by the end of the story. Some parts you might want to read more then once, because a lot happens in a short amounts with parts but as a whole this was one book my mom had to take away for me to get some sleep ^^" I'd recommend this book for people with a good to high reading level because of the description and wording might be a bit much for say an average 14-15 year old.

Welcome, all new members!
I've never heard of Plague Dogs... *puts on reading list* But then I haven't read Watership down either - I only have a German translation and it's so... strangely written, I didn't get past the first few pages.
But since we're on animals - has anyone here read Felidae by Akif Pirinçci? It's originally in German, but it was translated in English as well - that was a really great book - primarily crime fiction (with a cat solving the crime ) but also quite a bit about treatment of animals and so on. It's not a really children's book though...
I don't think it really matters - the best children's book are those that can be read at any age, I think. I'm reading the Chronicles of Narnia right now, and I'm as spellbound as I was when I first read them with 5 years. Though more critical of course...Lewis can be heavy handed with his Christian messages, especially in later books.robloxer wrote:Im reading a series of unfortunate events. I know its for younger kids, but who cares?

Favourite books/authors/genres: I take for Fantasy, Poetry, Adventure/Thriller, but generally a mishmash of books I get my hands on. I don't really read crime though, and I mainly look (Am still looking) for books situated in the Victorian or Medieval era. Authors include Tamora Pierce, Suzanne Collins, Jodi Picoult. There's quite a few more, but none that I can name off my head right now.
Recommend ONE book! Tell us why it’s great! The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It portrays a dystropic world where 12 Sectors that specialize in a particular category. (e.g Agriculture, Mining, Fishing) They all funnel to a place called the Capitol, basically a technologically-advanced city where the citizens live in luxury. Each year, they have this event called the 'Hunger Games', where they pick one girl and one boy from each of the twelve districts and have them fight to the death in an arena, but one where the Capitol can influence, and can change landscapes.
Be the victor, and you'd be granted a place in the Victor's Village, where you'd live in luxury. Lose and well... Death claims you first.

I've not read Felidae but I have seen the animated movie. Surprisingly dark.Carthasis wrote:Welcome, all new members!I don't think it really matters - the best children's book are those that can be read at any age, I think. This is another book I loved! Although I read his other book, Firebringer, and thought it was so boring I couldn't finish it.XxRequiemxX wrote: Recommend ONE book! Tell us why it’s great! The Sight by David Clement-Davies. If you love wolves and/or are interested in Gothic tales, this is a must-read. The author weaves an elaborate story of magic, revenge, and one pack of wolves who'll do anything to protect their own. This is one of the few books I can read again and again and never get tired of its compelling story.
But The Sight is amazing. I think I read that after my Julie of the Wolves obsession, because I was looking for another book about wolves to read. Most of my direwolves in my keep are named after wolves from both Julie of the Wolves and The Sight.
I read that on my kindle, and since I didn't have an actual copy of it I had no clue how long it was (and kindle doesn't show page numbers), so I was surprised when I would only get 2% through the book after reading for an hour. I actually really loved that book, but it was so long that I must have had to charge my kindle at least twice while reading it (and kindle batteries last a long time. I read East of Eden on kindle without having to recharge it at all).pegasi1978 wrote:
The last book I finished was "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Ugg! Normally I love Arthurian fantasy, but for some reason I couldn't get through it. I haven't had to slog through a book like that in a long time. It took me six weeks to finish (average for me is 2-3 days).
*puts that on reading list*Carthasis wrote: But since we're on animals - has anyone here read Felidae by Akif Pirinçci? That book sounds awesome.

I've read Felidae and liked it. I agree that it is quite dark and a bit violent sometimes, definitely not for kids. The sequels weren't as good, unfortunately.Carthasis wrote:Welcome, all new members!I don't think it really matters - the best children's book are those that can be read at any age, I think. Username: Drei Korvik
Favourite books/authors/genres: Oh, goodness, too many books to list. I can't really think of anything I don't like. Favorite genre is definitely sci-fi/fantasy, but most anything with fantasy tends to be good.
Recommend ONE book! Tell us why it’s great! Difficult. . . last thing I finished was the Dragonlance Chronicles, loved it. I liked the way it was written, though I can't put my finger on what was different about it. I think most of all, I loved the characters. All had limitations and all had something that was good about them.
Haven't been reading much recently, as it's winter break, but as soon as I get back to school I'll be reading some more. Can't stand paying attention in class.

Favourite books/authors/genres: I love fantasy, adventure and romance. I am not particularly fond of anything else, but I don't mind reading new things. I don't care for mysteries though. >.> My fav. author right now is Sherrilyn Kenyon.
Recommend ONE book! Tell us why it’s great! Acheron. It is my favorite book. It's about an Atlantean god doomed by the Fates to be the one to kill off the Atlantean panthanon and be the Final Fate of the world. His mother tries to save him by making a human queen give birth to him, but that just leads to him being abused as a child and eventually a sex slave. The first part ends with him being bonded to Artemis, which he doesn't like at all. The second part of the book is modern day and is a romance story in which he is finally free. I like this book because it's dark and easy to read, and extremely entertaining. It's part of a series called Dark Hunters, written by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I like all of the stuff I have read by her.
I love the idea for this club. My library is sorted stupidly, so all I can ever find is either romance with the same theme or murder mysteries (which I don't like).

@Deathmaster - this dark hunter series sounds like something I might really like in audiobook form! *stalks relevant places*
How exactly does your library sort stuff that makes it so difficult to find books? Inquiring future librarians want to know
I've started Kushiel's Chosen now - sometimes the first book (Kushiel's Dart) walked a really, really fine line between sugary tripe and rich baroque language and I have the feeling it's getting worse in the second book But it's fun anyway.... so far.
